Assalamu'alaikum,
After what seems like an eternity, thetrureligion.org is back, alhamdolillah !
Now, while most of the effort has been on tightening up the back end (updates, security, and the like), we have taken this opportunity to revamp the look and feel also. There are still a few things unfinished - you'll notice the odd broken link, deactivated function and other niggle here and there, but most of the original content is still available.
In the coming months, we'll be adding new features and fresh content. Oh, and if you've forgotten your password, click on 'Lost Password?' and follow the steps to recover.
Thanks for your patience !

Eid Mubarak ! The following is taken from Fatwa-Online:
Official Decision and Announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia
Just a short time ago, Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia that since the moon of Shawwaal was not sighted this evening, here in Saudi Arabia, we shall be completing thirty (30) days of Ramadhaan (1427 A.H.), in accordance with the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam):
"Fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you, then complete thirty days of Sha'baan. And break your fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you then fast thirty days" [transmitted by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim].
Subsequently, we shall be celebrating 'Eed al-Fitr on Monday 23rd October 2006, inshaa.-Allaah.

On October 1st, our community forums were hacked and deleted. Fortunately we maintain offsite backups and can restore without difficulty. The hacker's account has been removed and all his actions reversed. We are currently analyzing the security vulnerability further before deciding our next steps. Until then, as a precaution, the community related functions - forums, PMs and the like, will remain offline.
We have verified that the rest of the site was not affected by this security breach and continues to function normally, alhamdolillah.

Alhamdolillah, thetruereligion.org is one of the most popular Islamic sites in the world. About a year ago, thetruereligion.org migrated to a dedicated server to meet the increase in traffic to this site. This dramatically raised our monthly hosting costs, and so, for the first time in six years since we founded this site, we decided to accept donations to help keep the site running. The response was initially encouraging, but after a couple of months donations almost completely dried up except for a few generous individuals.
In the current situation it has become difficult to meet our monthly costs. Over the last couple of months we have tried many measures behind the scenes to increase the efficiency of the server processes and generally streamline the site. We have also attempted to reduce our costs by disabling some of the more popular parts of the site, and hopefully move to a less expensive hosting plan. This is the reason behind the service interruptions recently.
Unfortunately these efforts did not significantly reduce our costs. And so, we are faced with a stark choice: Either we need to raise regular donations, or the site will be drastically cut back, and possibly cease operations altogether.
As a reminder, this site receives no sponsorship of any kind from any government or organization. We are a completely independent, volunteer effort. If you have benefitted in any way from thetruereligion.org, we hope that this Ramadan you will share in the reward of running this site by making a pledge of $20 every month, or whatever you can afford, to keep this site running in its present form. If you cannot make a pledge, please make a one time donation in whatever amount you are able - it all helps.
Please use the 'Donate' button on the right hand site of the page - may Allah reward you for your efforts.

I’m grateful for everything you have given me And everything you have not, For every train that I mounted And every train I forgot. I’m grateful for all the ends I reached And the paths that went astray For I know that there was a giving In everything you have taken away.
I may seem so large to myself So distinct and so real Yet farther away I move My eyes don’t see but feel A presence so far away That starts to look so small That presence, me, once huge Ends up not there at all.
How dare I, when lord I am so tiny Walk away -and simply groan- From the pleasure of being your servant To the shame of being my own.
